I bought a used car two weeks before the road trip. It had 17,000 or 18,000 miles on it; quite new and the dealership detailed it so it looked new on the inside.
We drove 2850 miles for the 9 or 10 day trip. We had tremendous fun. Elliot got to meet Bill and Dora, my father’s best friends. He loved Rustler’s Roost – the fried rattlesnake and the slide. We went twice for dinner.
But the funniest moment?
On the way home, Elliot got car sick twice and puked all over the car one of those times. He was very apologetic and sad. I told him again and again don’t worry about it, nothing stays new.
Inside I was thinking “I only had the car two weeks” but those thoughts never got a voice. Stupid vanity wants its due but was denied.
Elliot was so sweet about it. And I felt terrible for him.
In retrospect I find the whole thing funny. A relatively new car turning into just what I had before in a matter of weeks… 😀
